Laurel Number One

Laurel number one is finished! When I stopped over thinking all of my decisions and went for it I was done very quickly. I used some chambray-ish fabric from goodwill and self made bias tape from cotton bought at Joann's. I think I'll like the look of this dress in a drapier fabric but overall I am pleased with this one. I got lots of compliments today at school, and my students couldn't believe I made it! Ok- so they are 8 and 9, but I still took it as a compliment every time!

I didn't end up needing a zipper, which saved a lot if time. I sewed up the back to check the fit and I got the dress on no problem. I even took in the sides 1/4 to 1/2 inch and it was still easy to get off and on. I traced the pattern as a 12 on top and blended to a 14 at the hips but that wasn't necessary at all. I love that Colette Patterns are designed to fit people like me! I also shortened the sleeves and lengthened the hem. I sewed two rows of stitching at the hem in an attempt to make the dress look more casual.
Ill leave you with an outtake (in my opinion!) of my photo shoot with my 10 year old. You can almost see my eyes rolling at her "artistic" shot!

Your dress is SO cute. It fits you perfectly! I like how you paired it with the turquoise tights.

Thanks! These are the third pair of tights I bought. They are much lighter than the first turquoise pair. I'm so matchy-matchy about color!

That's a great color combo, love the tights too. I can't believe you fond that fabric at Goodwill --score!

Thanks! It was a great score, I don't often find that much yardage.
